OSHA Cites Buffalo Plant for Asbestos

The Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) cited Ford Motor Company’s Buffalo plant for an asbestos violation, as well as seven other serious violations. The eight violations carry a proposed fine of $41,800.One citation was for a pipefitter’s exposure to asbestos while working on a steam line. Another citation was for workers not wearing proper respiratory protection while exposed to asbestos, and that the company did not properly monitor the work areas for asbestos.

A serious violation is one in which there is “a substantial probability that death or serious physical harm could result from a hazard about which the employer knew or should have known.”
